Obj:  Understanding Fractions:  Dividing Regions into Equal Parts

Lesson:  Multiplication fact review and quiz.  Do Common Core Review together on Smart Board. Introduce vocabulary.  Watch topic opener 9-1 and discuss.  TB pgs. 222-223. Set purpose and connect whole group discussion using Guided Practice and Independent Practice located on pgs. 222-223. Discuss Problem Solving on pg. 223 (flags as prior knowledge before math activity). 

Assignment:  R9-1/P9-1 If time, have students design a flag for your school that is made up of equal parts.  They should choose the number of equal parts, the color for each part, and a meaning of the colors.  Students should draw their flag and write a statement about the number of equal parts and the meaning of each color they chose.
