Focus:  Students will summarize, paraphrase, and integrate information to create a visual presentation.

***Directions to display Wonder:   Go to: IE Web Page, click on Library Media Center, Search the Library, Type “Wonder,” click title, Material Type- ebook, enter, then click open.  Log in to your Follett account.  If you click save then you won’t have to type that again. 

 

 

 

MONDAY

 

Reading-   Read Wonder by: R.J. Palacio pgs. 97-117.  Use the overhead projector to display the e-book. After each chapter, ask the COMPREHENSION and INFERRING questions then go over any figurative language.  Review then give Ch. 32-47 Quiz.  Have students draw a “disability.”  They will work with a partner to develop a 10 page informational Power Point about their disability.  Presentations will be on Friday.  Remind students that each slide needs to have at least 2 informational COMPLETE sentences.  Don’t write in all caps.  Important Heading words are capitalized.

Grammar-  Hand out Spelling List. Discuss the meaning of words.  Go to IXL- 5TH Grade Language Arts- Reference Skills-L. 1, 2 Order alphabetically.  Have students take turns going to the Smart Board to do a problem.  Assign:  IXL Reference Skills L.1 & 2. 

**Choose the top two spelling students in both ELA classes.  Give names to Mrs. Cook.

Reading-    Read Wonder by: R.J. Palacio pgs. 119-132. Use the overhead projector to display the e-book. After each chapter, ask the COMPREHENSION and INFERRING questions then go over any figurative language. Introduce and discuss new precept:  Have no friends not equal to yourself-Confucius.  Review then give Ch. 48-53 quiz.

Grammar- Review spelling words by giving students the word and having them write it on their wipe off boards.  Go to IXL- 5TH Grade Language Arts- Reference Skills L. 4 Guide Words.  Have students take turns going to the Smart Board to do a problem.  Assign:  IXL Reference Skills L. 4.

Reading-   PRESENTATION BY MRS. DOKE in old gym.  Read Wonder by: R.J. Palacio pgs. 134-150. Use the overhead projector to display the e-book. After each chapter, ask the COMPREHENSION and INFERRING questions then go over any figurative language. Discuss today’s precept: 

Grammar-  Go to IXL- 5TH Grade Language Arts- Reference Materials- Use dictionary entries and definitions.  Have students take turns going to the Smart Board to do a problem.  Assign:  IXL Reference Skills L. 5 & 6.

Reading-  Read Wonder by: R.J. Palacio pgs. 151-167.  Use the overhead projector to display the e-book.. After each chapter, ask the COMPREHENSION and INFERRING questions then go over any figurative language. Introduce and discuss new precept:  Just Follow the Day and Reach for the Sun- The Polyphonic Spree “Light and Day.”  Have students go to www.readworks.org/student  and log in.  The assigned SNERP is “Do You Bully?”  Readworks class code:MVUD7Y  password:1234  (Tell students to not change it!) 

Grammar-  Go to IXL- 5TH Grade Language Arts- Reference Skills- Use Thesaurus L. 7.  Do a couple from each section as a review.  Have students take turns going to the Smart Board to do a problem.  Assign:  IXL Reference Materials L. 7.

ELA-  Give Spelling Test then the Grammar Test.  Read Wonder by: R.J. Palacio pgs. 168-185. Use the overhead projector to display the e-book. After each chapter, ask the COMPREHENSION and INFERRING questions then go over any figurative language. Review and give Ch. 54-73 quiz. Students will present their Disability Power Point.
